Welcome to our Centre

Welcome to Guardian Childcare and Education Mentone West, a spacious, light-filled centre. Our early childhood education programs are focused on play-based learning, and our day care and child care centre provides a nurturing and stimulating environment for children aged six weeks to six years of age, supporting them to discover the world in a safe and secure way.

Our Mentone West childcare centre is conveniently situated for families living in the surrounding suburbs of Beaumaris, Mordialloc, and Parkdale. Our warm and welcoming environment includes:

  • Beautifully designed modern indoor learning spaces and an expansive outdoor environment with a creek bed, a water pump, a climbing fort, and vegetable gardens.
  • Included programs such as Joy of Reading, Cooking, Outdoor Learning, Out & About Community Excursions, and Sustainability, to support your child’s development and growth
  • On-site Chef who cooks fresh, nutritious meals daily in our fully equipped kitchen.
  • For babies, the Centre provides nappies, SPF 50+ sunscreen, a hat and bed linen.
  • Extended hours of care each weekday from 7am to 6.30pm.

Supported through a caring and dedicated team of university-qualified Teachers and Educators, our Mentone West day care and child care centre is an inclusive learning environment for children where a personalised approach to learning opportunities ensures children are supported to be bold, creative, and curious in their learning journey.

We celebrate our culturally diverse team at our Mentone West early learning centre with a calendar of cultural occasions and events throughout the year. Our Educators also take the kindergarten children out and about on regular excursions in the local community.

The Victorian Government offers funding to provide families up to 15 hours of Free Kindergarten a week, in addition to the Childcare Subsidy. The funding offsets the fees for three and four-year-old children that are part of the centre’s long day care Kindergarten program. Families will save up to $2,101 a year for children aged three-years-old and above in eligible long day cares in 2025. Ask us for more information when you visit our Centre.

Each age group is supported to learn and grow with quality care that considers each child’s individual needs. From sleep and rest in the baby room, to a fantastic range of learning spaces for each age stage, every child will find a welcoming and fun where they can make friends and develop their interests.

Children attending our Mentone childcare centre will also have the chance to see the same familiar faces as they move on up from our nursery room, into our Mentone West kindergarten program, designed specifically to help prepare your child to transition from early learning to primary school.

Our unique Visible Learning Program offers families an invaluable opportunity to stay engaged with their child’s learning journey. Through our easily accessible Learning Exchange Display, our Teachers and Educators provide daily updates on your child’s progress. This open communication also allows you to share your personal goals and aspirations, ensuring your input directly shapes your child’s educational experience.

To keep you connected, we offer access to our family communication app, Storypark. This platform keeps you informed with significant updates about your child’s day and important centre-wide announcements, so you’re always in the loop, even when you’re not on-site.

Families love the supportive and enriching experience at Guardian Childcare and Education Mentone West. Ready to start your child’s adventure with us? Book a tour today and meet our dedicated team!

Guardian Mentone West is a beautiful centre with beautiful staff. I know this because I did tours of 16 childcare centres around the area, tried a couple before our 3YO son joined this centre .Everyone is genuinely caring, it’s in their culture…treating every child as an individual and not just another kid. Listening to their needs and helping them settle. Making sure they are washed, well fed, relaxed, engaged and learning.

The Guardian is a great childcare centre. Both my son and daughter go there and they each love their teachers and the activities arranged for them each day. I’m kept informed through Storypark and get to see what they are up to each day. Wouldn’t send my kids anywhere else! Some days they don’t want to come home!!!!

Our 3y/o moved here when we moved house and we have been so impressed with the level of care from the management staff to the room educators.Staff are always going the extra mile for the children (for example building a diorama about my son’s favourite book) and for the families (providing free “rainy day” activities like arts and crafts and cakes in mugs!)This is a wonderful place for children to begin their learning journey and we are so happy we found it. Thank you to all the wonderful Guardian, Mentone West team!

Great team of educators that sincerely care for our daughter. We've seen her develop so much and grow into a confident person over the last two and a half years whilst being in care there. She adores the educators, is developing a lot of social and life skills and there's nothing better than knowing that as a parents. Also really like the fact they have healthy food on site :)

Our Grandson Eli has attended Guardian Mentone West since he was 5mths old (4 1/2 yrs). This is his last year before he goes off to school. What a wonderful place with fabulous carers & staff. Eli has loved his time at Guardian Mentone West and has a smile on his face every time we drop him off. I highly recommend this Childcare Centre if anyone is looking for their child. They treat all children as there own. Bec & Steph at reception are wonderful and will do anything for you. Thank you every staff member at Guardian Mentone West who cared for Eli.

We have been fortunate to have our children at Guardian Mentone West over the last 3 years and cannot recommend more highly. From the friendly faces that greet you everyday and know every member of the family by name, to their amazing educational knowledge, their enthusiasm for a dress up day or celebration, and the love and care shown to every single child in the centre. Not to forget their incredible "Baby Ambassador" who will look after your littlest one making the transition to childcare a breeze for both parents and bubs. The centre is always clean and the outdoor space is amazing for little inquisitive minds. Amazing effort to Bec, Steph and the rest of the team!

Rhythm of the Day

We know children (and families) like routine. Whilst no two days of learning are ever the same - here's what a day at Guardian might look like.

Whilst no two days of learning are ever the same - here's what a day at Guardian might look like.

Handover time with children, families and our friendly Educators. There's a chance for conversation to share what's important for the day/what's happened the night before at home.

Breakfast time where families are welcome to stay and enjoy breakfast with the children.

As children are arriving and families are coming and going, there's an opportunity for play as well as family grouping, open-plan play and multi-age grouping.

There's an opportunity for children to come together and enjoy morning tea.

Following morning tea, the planned experiences continue. This includes both indoor and outdoor programs.

There's an opportunity for children to come together for lunch. With an open-door policy, families are able to join the centre for meals and excursion if they wish.

For children who want to, or need to, there's an opportunity to sleep, rest or relax. For children who don't need to rest, there are planned experiences, which are more likely to be outdoors.

Children come together for afternoon tea in small groups or with siblings (they can also rest and play together, too). This time also presents an opportunity to reflect on the day.

As families arrive to pick up children, there's an opportunity to speak to Educators and share information about the day.

Some centres offer early tea or light snack at the end of the day, which they can grab as they leave the centre. We’re mindful of how routines vary at home, so if throughout the day, we notice children look tired, food will be provided.

As part of our unique Visible Learning Program, families can stay connected with their child’s education. Our Learning Exchange Display keeps you updated on your child’s progress and gives you the chance to contribute to their learning journey directly.
