Every day is an opportunity for discovery and growth at Guardian Childcare & Education Sherwood Forest. With a range of exciting, resource-rich environments including herb and vegetable gardens, shady trees, a swing set and a fort, children are encouraged to explore and learn both indoors and out – taking advantage of the beautiful Queensland climate.

The character and light-filled Centre is located in a converted church, and features the building’s original stained-glass windows, natural play structures, and a range of age-specific play areas.

At Guardian Sherwood Forest, the children get out and about on regular excursions, so we have a great connection with the surrounding community. We visit locations such as Mt Cootha, the local dentist, Ipswich Civic Centre for the show and the local Sherwood primary school, which forms an important part of our Kindergarten Program. The program is led by university-qualified teachers and helps prepare your child for the exciting transition to primary school.

With a community-minded team of Educators who have been with Guardian Sherwood Forest for a number of years, we are proud to offer a culturally diverse team who celebrate a variety of cultures and holidays throughout the year, extending on the children’s knowledge about the world around them.

Our on-site cook prepares fresh meals each day in our Centre kitchen, often including herbs and vegetables that the children and Educators grow and harvest from our Centre gardens. These ingredients are also used in regular hands-on cooking classes, where the children learn about good nutrition and are encouraged to try new foods and flavours.

Rhythm of The Day

With endless possibilities, there’s never a dull moment at Guardian and no two days are the same. Here’s what a day at Guardian might look like. Please note, this will vary depending on centre opening hours.

  • From 6:30am

    Handover time with children, families and our friendly Educators. There’s a chance to share what’s important for the day and any news from home.

  • Morning

    An opportunity to play and discover with open-plan play in family groups and multi-age groupings.

  • Morning

    Planned experiences. This is where the Guardian difference comes to life. Alongside our Educators your child’s exploration leads to learnings in numeracy, literacy, language, critical thinking, problem solving, leadership, social skills, technology, creative arts and much more.

  • Morning tea

    An opportunity for children to come together for a healthy snack, often they help collect their food alongside our carers.

  • Mid-morning

    Individually tailored to your child’s needs and curiosity the planned experiences continue, this includes both indoor and outdoor programs.

  • Lunch

    Another nutritious meal shared with peers. Families are also invited to join the children for excursions throughout the day if they wish.

  • Afternoon

    If your child wants to, or needs to sleep, it’s time to rest and recharge. For children who don’t need to rest the planned experiences continue, in most cases outdoors.

  • Afternoon tea

    Another chance for the children to come together and re-fuel in small groups or with siblings. There is also an opportunity to rest or play together and reflect on the day.

  • Pick-up

    As you arrive to pick up your child, there’s a chance to speak with our Educators and share news about the day. Our Storypark App also allows you to stay in touch 24/7 wherever you are.

Our Educators

Our team of Educators are committed and passionate about ensuring your child will be safe, nurtured and cared for every day. At Guardian, children are encouraged to engage in interest-led play that creates learning and meaningful experiences.

Our Educators seek to optimise diverse learning opportunities and implement the Curriculum as framed by the Early Years Learning Framework.

You and Your Child

All Guardian Centres provide a Centre-to-Family communication platform so families can maintain contact with their children’s experiences through photos, stories and learning outcomes.

Our Centres use Storypark and each family is provided with a secure login to access on their computers, mobiles or apps.

Guardian Childcare & Education Sherwood Forest is located just behind the main street in Sherwood. The building has been lovingly transformed from a church into a warm and welcoming home away from home, complete with colourful and stimulating indoor and outdoor spaces.

Our routines are flexible, and programs are based on the children’s personal interests. Each child is encouraged to contribute their ideas about what to learn. We offer a variety of incursions and excursions throughout the year, all of which are included in your child’s fees.

Many of our Educators have been with the centre for many years, and have forged strong bonds with local families. We love seeing the children grow and develop during their time with us, and then welcoming their siblings when it’s their turn to attend the centre. It’s this consistency and family focus that has earned us the trust of our community.
