Our time at Guardian Mentone East has been a pleasant experience from day dot. From the admin staff to those busy in the kitchen, everyone there is happy, friendly and proactive. We put our little one in just as she was turning 1 and have always been satisfied with the level of communication and care. The educators are kind and patient, always willing to meet our child's needs. After the initial adjustment, our baby absolutely loves going to childcare - and we rest assured that she is getting great enrichment experiences and well balanced food (that she actually eats!). She even naps better there than at home. Would definitely recommend Guardian Mentone East to our friends and family for a well-rounded childcare service.

We chose Guardian Mentone East after visiting 3 other centres and couldn't be happier, it just felt right as soon as we walked in. Claire, Pawan and Charli are so supportive and caring, I felt completely comfrotable leaving our son in their care and he settled in so quickly. The rooms are great, full of light and loads of things to do, books and plenty of outdoor space to play. Sam and Louise do an amazing job running the centre and know everyone by name. The menu rotates regularly and there are lots of yummy, healthy meals for the kids. Plus we get great updates on how his day was and plenty of photos.

Lucky to have had our daughter at Guardian Mentone East for the last two years and had no hesitation to enrol our son to start in a few months time. Sam and Louise are fantastic at running the centre, and all of the educators we’ve had to date have also been fantastic. Centre itself is a good size, big enough to be able to secure a place, but small enough to still have a community feel.

I have been fortunate to have had two children spend their formative years at Guardian Mentone East and both kids loved their experience there. The centre is well maintained and brilliantly managed by Sam - the communication has been clear, frequent and I’ve enjoyed seeing pictures & reading about the learning experiences the children have had through StoryPark. The educators are fantastic. They supported my two children to be make friends, learn appropriate play, encouraged them to be curious and creative, but most importantly, fostered the kids to truly be themselves. My two children finished their kindy year very ready and excited for school and both commented on how much they’d enjoyed their time at the centre. Whole heartedly recommend!

This year my 3yo son started unassisted swim lessons (without his parent in the pool). He has a new teacher who is growing into her confidence. Throughout his lesson, my son sits still, pays attention and listens to her instructions, even though she can be hard to hear. When she tells him to adjust what he’s doing during his swimming, he listens immediately. It’s clear to see my son's manners are a direct result of his teaching at Guardian Mentone East. His great behaviour is a testament to the skill, perseverance and diligence of all of his educators in the various rooms he’s gone through. I couldn’t be more proud of my son and happy with the results of his time at Guardian ME so far!The staff are always friendly and welcoming but its the results in my son's behaviour that speaks volumes. Often when we're asking for my son to consider his behaviour, we'll ask how his educators have asked him to behave. Their attentive and knowledgable instruction empowers us to guide our son through everything he has to learn. We're sending our second son to the centre as we're confident all the staff at Guardian Mentone East are equipping both our boys with the best start to their education journey.

My daughter has been attending this centre for a while now and to say I am pleased is an understatement. The building as a whole, is amazing. It's big and bright with seperate rooms for each age group with play spaces and experiences set up accordingly as well as beautiful yards for their outdoor play. The management at this centre is excellent, they are always there to answer any questions I might have and go out of their way to make sure everything runs smoothly for families. The Educators throughout the centre are amazing and friendly, I see a lot of smiling faces daily when we arrive at the centre and they always make my daughter feel welcome. Drop offs are easy as she is familiar with the Equators and will willingly go to them and then off to explore. She absolutely loves attending the centre and that's due to all the staff and their hard work that they put in every single day. Thank you so much for all that you do for my daughter.

My 20month old son has been there since 9-10months old and we absolutely love the place. The staff are very caring and treat the childrens in such a loving way. They really listen to how you do things at home and do their best to provide a similar enviromemt. We've been at the centre since 2012 and have seen many changes. Many of the educators are beyond fabulous and have always welcomed our girls with big open arms. Sam, the centre manager is the best fit for our centre and is doing a great job. Over the years I've recommended a number of children to the service and will continue to do so.

Welcome to our Centre

Welcome to Guardian Childcare and Education Mentone East! Our spacious, bright and modern early learning centre in Mentone East provides a welcoming environment and leading early childhood education programs for children aged six weeks to six years of age to discover the world in a safe and secure way.

At Guardian Mentone East, our approach to early childhood education is centred on nurturing happiness, confidence, and independence among our young learners. We believe that a happy child is an engaged child, and we strive to create a positive atmosphere where children feel secure to explore and express themselves.

At our childcare in Mentone East, we promote growth in social and emotional wellbeing through purposeful play-based learning experiences, helping children develop essential life skills. Our dedicated educators nurture each child’s individuality, fostering resilience and self-assurance to lay a strong foundation for future learning and personal development.

Our outdoor space at this childcare in Mentone East features native trees, herb and vegetable gardens, creek beds, water play areas, and age-specific spaces where our learning programs thrive. Children enjoy regular excursions into the local community, including the ‘Duck Park’ in Mentone Reserve, which is just a short walk from our center. We also welcome families from childcare Cheltenham, ensuring everyone benefits from our enriching environment.

Our Mentone East childcare centre offers:

  • Quality learning programs such as Joy of Reading, Cooking and Sustainability
  • Engaging indoor learning spaces full of quality educational resources
  • Expansive outdoor play spaces with native trees, herb and vegetable gardens, sandpit creek beds and water play areas.
  • On-site Chef providing fresh snacks and meals daily
  • Highly experienced Educators and degree-qualified Teachers
  • Nappies, SPF 50+ sunscreen, high-quality formula and bed linen provided
  • Extended hours of care each weekday from 7am to 6pm

The community-minded team at our Mentone East child care also have a great connection with Mentone Park Primary, who invite the kindergarten children over to use their prep playground. This is a natural extension of the Centre’s two-year funded kindergarten Program which is led by university-qualified Teachers who are there to support your child through the exciting transition to school.

The Victorian Government offers funding to provide families up to 15 hours of Free Kindergarten a week, in addition to the Childcare Subsidy. The funding offsets the fees for three and four-year-old children that are part of the centre’s long day care Kindergarten program. Families will save up to $2,101 a year for children aged three-years-old and above in eligible long day cares in 2025. Ask us for more information when you visit our Centre.

Our on-site Chef prepares five fresh, nutritionally balanced meals using seasonal ingredients every day. To further explore food at the Centre our Educators host hands-on cooking classes to help the children extend their knowledge of nutrition and encourage them to try new foods.

At Guardian Mentone East childcare, families can view the day-to-day learnings of their children through our Visible Learning program, an approach that is unique to Guardian. This program enables parents to understand their child’s learnings via the Learning Exchange Display – located near the front of our Centre.

At Guardian Childcare & Education Mentone East, our approach to early childhood development ensures that your family has access to a high-quality learning experience in a safe and nurturing environment close to home. We focus on building strong relationships with both children and families, creating exceptional learning opportunities tailored to each child and age group.

We are committed to implementing best practices in our childcare center, creating a secure and welcoming environment for infants, toddlers, and kindergarten-aged children. Each learning program is meticulously designed by experienced educators to promote the development of social and emotional skills, as well as literacy, numeracy, and problem-solving abilities—equipping children for a lifelong journey of learning. Our play-based learning programs are aligned with the Early Years Framework, the National Quality Standard, and the Australian School Curriculum, ensuring a solid educational foundation.

Our team of passionate early childhood Educators and degree-qualified Teachers deliver an advanced play-based and nature-inspired curriculum, as well as a leading, two-year funded kindergarten Program to help prepare your child for the exciting transition to school.

Children also have the chance to get out and about on weekly excursions; we have a great connection with the surrounding community. We visit locations such as local cafes, parks and the high street. The children also love visiting our local fruit supplier and picking out produce to use in meals, prepared by our dedicated on-site cook.

Families will also be able to keep up to date with their child’s progress through our family communication app Storypark. This app is a direct way to discover deeper insights into what’s happening day-to-day with their children, as well as any other updates and experiences that happen within the Centre.

Rhythm of the Day

With endless possibilities, there’s never a dull moment at Guardian and no two days are the same. Here’s what a day at Guardian might look like.

With endless possibilities, there’s never a dull moment and no two days are the same.

Handover time with children, families and our friendly Educators. There's a chance for conversation to share what's important for the day/what's happened the night before at home.

Breakfast time where families are welcome to stay and enjoy breakfast with the children.

As children are arriving and families are coming and going, there's an opportunity for play as well as family grouping, open-plan play and multi-age grouping.

There's an opportunity for children to come together and enjoy morning tea.

Following morning tea, the planned experiences continue. This includes both indoor and outdoor programs.

There's an opportunity for children to come together for lunch. With an open-door policy, families are able to join the centre for meals and excursion if they wish.

For children who want to, or need to, there's an opportunity to sleep, rest or relax. For children who don't need to rest, there are planned experiences, which are more likely to be outdoors.

Children come together for afternoon tea in small groups or with siblings (they can also rest and play together, too). This time also presents an opportunity to reflect on the day.

As families arrive to pick up children, there's an opportunity to speak to Educators and share information about the day.

Some centres offer early tea or light snack at the end of the day, which they can grab as they leave the centre. We’re mindful of how routines vary at home, so if throughout the day, we notice children look tired, food will be provided.

Our team of Educators are committed and passionate about ensuring your child will be safe, nurtured and cared for every day. At Guardian, children are encouraged to engage in interest-led play that creates learning and meaningful experiences.

Our Educators seek to optimise diverse learning opportunities and implement the Curriculum as framed by the Early Years Learning Framework.

You and Your Child

All Guardian Centres provide a Centre-to-Family communication platform so families can maintain contact with their children’s experiences through photos, stories and learning outcomes.

Our Centres use Storypark and each family is provided with a secure login to access on their computers, mobiles or apps.

Learn More About Our Centre

Guardian Childcare & Education Mentone East is a beautiful, open-plan childcare centre situated on Blackwood Avenue, directly across from Mentone Park Primary School and near Mentone Reserve.

Our centre is perfectly located for families in Mentone East, Cheltenham, Parkdale, Mordialloc, and Beaumaris, and we also welcome families from further afield who value quality early learning with dedicated educators who genuinely care about nurturing children. This location is particularly convenient for those commuting along the Nepean Highway, making daily drop-off and pick-up routines seamless.

At our daycare in Cheltenham, we are passionate about preparing children to become the big thinkers of the future. Our play-based learning approach emphasises intellectual, physical, emotional, and social development in an environment that is safe, fun, and supportive of each child’s unique strengths.

Our Cheltenham childcare centre is equipped with bright, stimulating materials that encourage exploration and engagement with the exciting world around them – the best start to a child’s life!

Through our kindergarten program, we help prepare children for their exciting transition into school. We focus on developing children’s interests and many of the key skills that children use in the first few years of school, supporting them to feeling more ready and confident as they take the big step up.

Guardian Mentone East is open from 7.00 am to 6.30 pm every weekday, so families are provided with plenty of flexibility for the hours they work and the time they choose to drop off and pick up their child. During drop-off or pick-up times, we encourage you to stay for a little while and spend some time exploring the learning environment. Our

Educators and Teachers can help you explore the various play materials and educational spaces throughout the Cheltenham Centre, which are designed to nurture children’s interests and promote a stimulating environment for learning at home. Our family communication app, Storypark, keeps you updated with photos and information about your child’s development throughout the day, ensuring you stay informed about their early learning journey. We also establish different learning outcomes in Storypark that support your child in achieving developmental milestones and understanding new ideas, giving them the best start possible.

For children aged three and four, we offer a kindergarten program led by university-qualified teachers that supports your child’s school readiness while aligning with the Early Years Learning Framework. Our kindergarten curriculum holds the Victorian Government Kinder Tick, showcasing our commitment to giving your child the best possible start in life.

Our kindergarten programs are led by specialist Educational Leaders who guide teaching and learning in a flexible and research-supported way. Through the program, children have the opportunity to learn some of the skills that are often only introduced in school. We begin learning and exploring shapes, numbers and letters through fun, play-based activities.

At Guardian Mentone East, we’re dedicated to children’s health and nutrition, with our on-site cook preparing fresh meals filled with essential nutrients for growing bodies. We encourage children to get involved in food preparation and ask questions about their meals, exploring where their food comes from and its benefits. This approach not only promotes healthy eating but also fosters an appreciation for the cultural heritage behind different foods, nurturing diversity and inclusion from an early age.

Our kindergarten programs are designed to build each child’s literacy and numeracy skills, ensuring they feel confident as they transition to primary school. We tailor our support to meet the needs of each family, honouring and encouraging every child’s cultural background.

As part of our unique Visible Learning Program, families can gain insights into their child’s education. Our Learning Exchange Display offers updates on your child’s progress and provides opportunities for you to engage in their learning journey.

Kindergarten Program
Flying start to school

Our Flying Start to School kindergarten program is lead by degree qualified Teachers in a long day care setting. Our specialist two-year program is committed to supporting your child as they prepare for big school. We focus on nurturing their confidence, making friends and social emotional growth while also supporting their abilities in reading, writing, counting, and thinking skills. Whether it’s building with blocks, practicing their first letters, or learning to share with friends, every experience is carefully designed to support your child’s development.

Our Centre is a recipient of funding as part of the VIC Government’s Free Kinder Program. Eligible children aged three years and above will receive up to $2101 in additional subsidies to reduce your out-of-pocket fees. Ask for more details when you tour the centre.

Out and about

Through excursions, children are supported to expand their world, to get to know their community, and have a sense of belonging. Their learning thrives when they feel safe, welcome, and that they belong.

STEM

Children discover the wonders of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through age-appropriate activities that are designed to foster curiosity and develop foundational skills like problem-solving and creativity.

Cooking

Cooking experiences teach numeracy by counting ingredients, and weighing and measuring quantities and volume, while managing these tasks supports independence and confidence.

Ella Language

Learning languages through Early Learning Languages Australia (ELLA) supports brain development and social skills and creates opportunities to celebrate cultural diversity.

Joy of Reading

Reading aloud to children each day inspires imagination and supports thinking. Books with rhythm, rhyme and word patterns make stories more playful and memorable.

Sustainability

From growing veggies and foraging in the garden for that day’s meal ingredients to learning about recycling, children learn about being part of a community, connecting to their environment and understanding their impact on the world.
