We have sent our daughter and son to this centre since 2022, We've been very happy with the level of care provided to our kids and have found the carers super genuine. My kids have made great friends here that have transferred to playdates outside of daycare which has been really amazing to see. They have both thrived attending this centre, with my daughter who is now finishing up her 4 year old Kinder program & my son who is in the toddler room.

The space is kept tidy, clean, very open plan which is great and I find that they create really engaging activities for my kids. I think the only minor issue(that the centre probably cannot control) is that I find they aren't able to attend a variety of excursions due to the locality of the centre itself.

Special thanks to Lavender, Cindy, Meg, Christina, Rose, Bhupinder and Fiona who have been so consistent with their presence and care for both of my children - as well as centre management (Jess & Dani) who are passionate about every child and always ensuring parents are informed of changes.

We've been with the centre since 2019, when it was called Platypus Junction and it was such a great centre that thrived on building a community.
When the pandemic hit, a change in management (both director and assistant director) happened which really down hill with that management group. It also coincided with when Guardian bought the centre out. A lot of good staff did leave, we eventually left the centre too. I even deleted my previous 5 stars review.

However, since Jessica (current director) joined, really turned the environment around and made it all about quality educational and fun programs, and building on staff capabilities. We returned to the centre after hearing the change from our friends that remained there and really glad that we did.
Staff are so much more engaged and the retention rate is steady, so much better that even previous quality educators have returned to the centre as well.
All the staff and kinder teachers are wonderful, they care not just about the kids but your family as a whole.
New chef provide great quality and delicious food, my son always request for more servings.
The centre is bright and clean with an awesome play area on the roof top.
There are constant incursions and basketball court excursions at the nearby building for the kinder class. Fun events are on throughout the month and make the kids all excited.
I can highly recommend this centre again.

We've generally had a good experience with the childcare centre. The staff is caring and attentive and our child is happy there. There have been a few minor incidents where our child got hurt, which were mostly managed well. However, there was one incident we weren't happy with in terms of how it was initially handled. That said, management addressed our concerns professionally and took the matter seriously, which we really appreciated. It gave us confidence that they are committed to continuous improvement and well-being of the children.

Apart from that incident, the staff are all amazing. You can really tell they love what they do. They're warm, patient and genuinely care about the kids. Our son always comes home happy and full of stories about his day. Thanks to his room educators Lavenda, Cindy and Meg who's always patient, kind and understanding.

The centre itself is bright, clean and set up with many engaging activities. There's always something creative or exciting going on.

A special shout out to the centre managers Jessica and Dani, who truly goes above and beyond. You can tell they're passionate about their work. They're always approachable, super organised and go out of their way to make us feel comfortable and supported.

Also a special thank you to chef Jaime. Who has been so kind and understanding when it comes to picky eaters. We really appreciate him sharing his recipes with us. It's that kind of extra care that makes all the difference.

Overall we are happy with the centre and feels reassured that our son is in good hands.

Prior to enrolling my child at Guardian two years ago, the centre has lots of natural light and plenty of room for children to explore or play. The rooms and common areas are always clean and tidy.

The centre manager JESSICA is very patient and responsible. she made me to feel safe. That communication from the room educators is sufficient and on time.
The forefront ladies (Danielle, and Lavender) are very friendly and helpful. The educators are also very approachable, accommodating and compassionate. Another thing that I appreciate about this centre is their low turnover rate on staff. This is an important factor as children (my kids at least) tends to feel safe and secure amongst familiar faces.

Always have feedback from the educators about my kid's progress in the centre and some suggestions for us to help them to improve. My kids was reluctant to join group plays. The educators here always encourage them to join in. Now they can join the group and has more fun than before.

Three of my kids currently attends daycare here and I do not regret this decision at all. I would highly recommend to parents.

Love to see my all baby's smiling face when picking them up and listening to them about the fun day in the centre.

I’m so happy with the twins’ care at Platypus Junction Mulgrave. The Centre Management team and all educators are friendly, caring and so loving towards the twins, I couldn’t imagine them being anywhere else.

The reassurance I feel knowing that my children are in care that’s just like I would give them, but with the added bonus of them learning and interacting with other children their age is truly appreciated.

Our girls have been attending platypus junction since they were babies and can not be more happier. The ladies are amazing, especially at the initial stages of transitioning from mummy care to daycare. It's great to see our kids now don't cry at drop offs and want to stay at pick up. The ladies really care about our kids and give them that TLC when they need it. The play area is beautiful with lots of activities and toys for a growing mind. It's clean, staff very friendly and work with you in developing a plan (both social and development) to ensure they are meeting thier goals. If you are looking for quality daycare- this centre is it.

From the first visit done with the Manager Ferah almost 2 years ago I knew that this is the perfect centre for my daughter, my daughter after that started with orientation session and she loved it, now she look forward to go there. I would like to say that this centre by far one of the best childcare in the area. I'VE SEEN ALOT ;)  as part of my Job.

Children best interest, development and health in this centre is the first priority, the support for families from the Manager (Ferah) and educators relationship with the children is incurable.
they really took it to the next level of support and care throw this health pandemic. Children never experienced any different in learning and developments and other services provided throw this pandemic COVID-19 which is amazing Job compared by other centres in the area. As essential worker I was lucky to have my daughter enrolled with Platypus Junction Mulgrave to have that peace of mind while at work.
I cannot thank PJ Mulgrave enough for the support they gave our family and my daughter from the time of enrolment.
If you looking around for high standard childcare in Mulgrave for your child do not look any more this is the one.

I have had 2 children at Platypus Junction Mulgrave over the past 3.5 years and couldn't of asked for a better ELC. I feel they gave my son all the tools and education needed to start Prep this year. My daughter is still their and they have been a great help and support from Nursery to Pre-Kinder - the activities are excellent from Animal Farm visits, Yoga, Gardening, cultural days and cooking. I would recommend this center to anyone in the area looking for excellent education, clean facilities and fun and loving teachers.

Our children have been attending the Mulgrave centre since the year it first opened. We have been highly impressed with the first class services they have provided ever since. The level of love, care and support ALL of the carers have displayed is second to none. Our girls are treated as if they are a part of a family, which is an important factor when your children are cared for 5 days a week. Education and experiences are above and beyond a normal centre, with PJ Mulgrave providing in abundance to develop our children with a bright and exciting future ahead.

I could not speak more highly of Platypus Junction Mulgrave. As an early childhood teacher I was very particular about where I wanted to send my baby. I looked at so many childcare centres and Platypus Junction was the first centre I looked at where I felt completely comfortable. The centre is clean, beautifully set up and well maintained. The staff are friendly, responsive and have such beautiful relationships with the children, from the room all the way up to management. Platypus junction has fantastic communication and I always feel in the loop and confident that I know what is going on around the centre and that my child is safe and well looked after. I absolutely recommend this centre.

Couldn’t ask for a better center and educators. I am a master student in teaching in early years, and let’s just say, playtypus Mulgrave is by far the best center I have experienced ( and yes I mean the three centers I have done my placements, and also bunch of centers I have visited before enroll my little one). Managing team staff are always very helpful and friendly. Educators in my daughters room are very professional, from the room leader to the casual educators! Every time I walk into the room, they are always ON THE FLOOR with the children ( sometimes standing changing nap pies and cleaning the room , you get the gist). The report that they do every day is not to meet the requirement, but you can actually tell they are trying to facilitate learning in the room. All in all, by far the best, and I would recommend all my friends here if they ever ask for advice. You can’t go wrong with this center!

My son has been at PJ for almost a year now just after they first opened and the level of care at the centre has always been incredible. My son loves the educators as they do love him and they treat the children as if they were their own. They are always friendly, happy and attentive. My son looks forward to attending and at times he doesn’t want to leave. The place is clean, spacious and well set up with good quality activities and toys. The rooftop garden is amazing with a vegetable garden and great views too! While I’m at work I don’t have to worry as I know my son is being well looked after and thriving in this environment. I don’t plan to move as I want him to stay there until he starts primary. Thank you PJ for helping me raise a happy child!

My daughter has been attending Playpus Junction since the start of the year and the amount she has developed is just incredible. Everyday she comes home having learnt something new & exciting, she is always engaged and is extremely happy here.

She is starting primary school next year and is beyond ready to go. I don’t think she would have been anywhere near as ready had she stayed at her previous child care center.

The educators are fantastic and I know that when my daughter is here she is always perfectly cared for, has an amazing time and gets a great education.

We could not recommend Platypus Junction enough!

Platypus Junction Mulgrave is an fabulous centre, my child enjoys every moment and is always excited to go. Their kindergarten program is outstanding! Lali and the team are wonderful educators and are attentive to my child's wellbeing and development. My child has built a strong bond with everyone. We receive online updates of the kids daily activities as well as in person reports. The centre is always very clean and organised. We would highly recommend Platypus Junction to other family and friends.

My son attended another Centre prior to attending this Centre and this is by far ran at a much higher standard than the main chain Childcare Centres. I am very happy with Platypus Junction but most of all, my son is happy which says a lot about the Centre. My child is in the nursery room and is not only loving it but is thriving. The team are very friendly and nuturing. The facilities are first rate and it is always a warm and comforting environment.

My boy was not happy at previous center as they force him to sleep during the daytime. Here, he is happy and getting used to going. For the first time, he was not able to speak in English but now speak little by little. Best point that I am happy with is that my son's teacher, Lali is always honest. If my son cry, she let us him cried with the reasons. If my son did not eat lunch, she always let us know how much he had and what the menu was. The honesty always made us to trust her and other staffs as well.
The management even send me the recipe of lunch menu that my son loved when I ask. This is a perfect place that we were searching for my son. Highly recommend :)

Rhythm of the Day

We know children (and families) like routine. Whilst no two days of learning are ever the same - here's what a day at Guardian might look like.

Morning

Our friendly Nursery team of familiar educators will be there to greet you and support your baby to settle in for the day.  Breakfast time is available & families are welcome to stay and enjoy with the children. This is also a great chance for conversation to share what is important and how your baby’s night at home was.

Mid-Morning

Our nursery learning environments are set up indoors and outdoors for your baby to engage with a variety of planned experiences while they interact with our team such as exploring picture books, singing songs together. We also offer morning tea.

Middle of the Day

Dependent on the needs of every baby, we time lunch to suit the children. Team members will support your child to eat and/or have a bottle, and when they are ready, are gently settled for sleep or rest. With an open-door policy, families can enjoy lunch/bottle time with your baby if you wish.

Mid-Afternoon

Our nursery planned experiences (both indoor and outdoor) continue and there are opportunities for movement, playing games, more books and songs, or sensory exploration. Afternoon snack is provided.

End of Day

We’ll have your baby’s belongings ready for you at pick up time. The Nursery team will share information about your baby’s day and their learning, preparing you and your child for a smooth transition to your evening. Please grab a piece of fruit or snack on the way out!

What we do to keep children safe

Create Safe Spaces & Practices

  • Nappy change areas are designed to have visibility windows and are set up for maximum supervision
  • Our policies also cater for team members being in sight or sound of another team member at all times.
  • Safety embedded in daily programs – by conducting daily checklists, comprehensive risk assessments, and more
  • personal phones or devices are not allowed in learning spaces.

Safe People Who Follow Safe Policies

  • Working With Children Checks for all team members. Automatic alerts if a WWCC is revoked and team member not eligible for shifts
  • Rigorous reference checks – must provide previous line managers for their past roles
  • Annual compulsory Suitability Declarations to confirm ongoing fitness to work with children
  • Mandatory reporting and speaking up – report concerns immediately and all concerns will be investigated fully
  • Ongoing mandatory training in child safety, including annual refreshers and leadership-specific modules

Daily Rates

Our daily rates are all inclusive and have no additional charges for incursions / excursions or any of our learning programs. The rates shown are an estimate based on using Childcare Subsidy (CCS) subsidised hours. The CCS helps lower your out-of-pocket costs, with subsidy rates dependant on your individual family eligibility levels.

The Victorian Government offers funding to provide families up to 15 hours of Free Kindergarten a week, in addition to the Childcare Subsidy. The funding offsets the fees for three and four-year-old children that are part of the centre’s long day care Kindergarten program. Families will save up to $2,101 a year for children aged three-years-old and above in eligible long day cares in 2025. Ask for more details when you tour the centre.

Our Centre team, led by our experienced Centre Manager Jessica, prides themselves on creating a great sense of community for all families.

Each role in the Centre is designed to work together to help create a nurturing environment for every child in each of our learning spaces.

In our Nursery Room, the dedicated team has a special role in creating secure attachments, routines, and strong relationships. Unique to Guardian nurseries is our Baby Ambassador, who is your go-to person for you and your baby’s first 12 months with us. They will know every detail about your baby: how breast or bottle milk is managed, how they like to eat, their sleeping routines, the nappies they wear, and more. With babies as young as six weeks in the Centre, it’s the Baby Ambassador’s job to work with families and Educators to help make our Nursery feel just like home.

Our Educators across the age groups work together to create fun, stimulating, and age-appropriate experiences for every child in their care. They are dedicated, experienced professionals who are allocated to a specific room so they can get to know each child individually and support their learning and development.

As part of our 2-year Flying Start to School program, we have degree-qualified Teachers who use the latest teaching practices to help your child build essential practical and social skills, ensuring they’re ready for their next big adventure—school!

Each room has a Lead Educator or Teacher who is responsible for planning and implementing an effective ongoing cycle of planning, documentation, and evaluation of the room’s learning program.

At the core of the Centre is our Cook—make sure you check out their daily menu when you visit. They help make food part of the learning journey and love seeing how children respond to new and exciting flavours.

The team is supported by a strong Leadership Team, including an Assistant Centre Manager and an Educational Leader.

Every role at the Centre is as important as the next.

How will you share updates about my child’s day?

Great communication is vital in our collaborative partnerships with families at the Centre. We have a variety of different ways we communicate with you about your child’s learning and progress:


  1. Storypark app - Stay connected to your child's day with regular updates, including photos and learning insights

  2. Pick-up and drop-off updates – Our Educators will share highlights from their day, including experiences they enjoyed, mealtimes, and naps to support your evening routine.

  3. In-room learning exchange displays make our weekly learning plans easy to see so you know what your child will be learning.

  4. Centre Newsletters – Great for community connection and wider Centre and team updates.

  5. Development documentation and meetings for your individual child’s progress.

To BE Me is our exclusive learning program designed for each age and stage of a child's first years. To BE Me sets the standard for early learning with a contemporary approach tailored to your child's age, interests and strengths. It sets easy to follow Development Pathways and encompasses our educational programs, room set-ups, daily rhythms and the way we support your child.

Kindergarten Program
Flying start to school

Our Flying Start to School kindergarten program is lead by degree qualified Teachers in a long day care setting. Our specialist two-year program is committed to supporting your child as they prepare for big school. We focus on nurturing their confidence, making friends and social emotional growth while also supporting their abilities in reading, writing, counting, and thinking skills. Whether it’s building with blocks, practicing their first letters, or learning to share with friends, every experience is carefully designed to support your child’s development.

Our Centre is a recipient of funding as part of the VIC Government’s Free Kinder Program. Eligible children aged three years and above will receive up to $2101 in additional subsidies to reduce your out-of-pocket fees. Ask for more details when you tour the centre.

Out and about

Through excursions, children are supported to expand their world, to get to know their community, and have a sense of belonging. Their learning thrives when they feel safe, welcome, and that they belong.

STEM

Children discover the wonders of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through age-appropriate activities that are designed to foster curiosity and develop foundational skills like problem-solving and creativity.

Cooking

Cooking experiences teach numeracy by counting ingredients, and weighing and measuring quantities and volume, while managing these tasks supports independence and confidence.

Ella Language

Learning languages through Early Learning Languages Australia (ELLA) supports brain development and social skills and creates opportunities to celebrate cultural diversity.

Joy of Reading

Reading aloud to children each day inspires imagination and supports thinking. Books with rhythm, rhyme and word patterns make stories more playful and memorable.

Sustainability

From growing veggies and foraging in the garden for that day’s meal ingredients to learning about recycling, children learn about being part of a community, connecting to their environment and understanding their impact on the world.
