Are you studying for your Certificate III, Diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education?
At Guardian, we are committed to developing high quality team members, and that starts with supporting students studying towards their early childhood qualification. We are a leader in the early childhood education sector, and we know that the best experiences for children and their families begin with knowledgeable, well-supported and passionate team members.
We understand what it takes for a successful practicum placement, and we are here to help you grow and develop into the educator you aspire to be.
Child Safety Comes First
The safety and wellbeing of every child in our care is our paramount consideration — it comes before everything else. That is why we welcome students who share this commitment, and why we ask every student to meet a few important requirements before joining us. These requirements keep children safe and set you up for a positive, successful placement.

How to Apply
Applying is a simple two-step process.
Step 1 — Check You Meet Our Requirements
Before you contact a centre, please check that you can meet all of the requirements below. If you cannot meet every requirement, we are unable to offer you a placement at this time.
- Studying an approved early childhood qualification. You are studying a Certificate III, Diploma, or a Bachelor in Early Childhood Education. If you are studying a Graduate Diploma or Masters, you will need to have already completed a Diploma in Early Childhood Education or a teaching degree.
- Satisfactory study progress. If you are at university, you have a credit average or above. If you are studying a Certificate III or Diploma, you have been assessed as competent in all modules completed so far.
- A current Working with Children Check. You hold a valid Working with Children Check, or the equivalent for your state or territory.
- Child safety training. You have completed National Child Safety Training, and any child protection training required in your state or territory.
- A clear practicum history. You have not previously had a practicum placement declined, suspended or ceased at any centre.
(Once you contact a centre, you will also be asked to complete a short Suitability Declaration and provide copies of the documents above)
Step 2 — Find a Centre and Get in Touch
When you have confirmed that you meet our requirements, find a Guardian centre near you and contact the Centre Manager directly to request a placement. You can find all Guardian Centre locations here.
Please note we do not accept phone calls for student placement enquiries.
At Guardian, you matter, and your personal and career goals matter — and so does the safety of every child in our care.
