Welcome to our Centre

Welcome to Guardian Childcare & Education Underwood, an expansive, state-of-the-art long day care centre in the City of Logan. Our Underwood long day care centre provides exciting early years learning experiences for children aged six weeks to six years, supported by an experienced team of Educators.

At our Underwood child care centre, our early childhood education programs are focused on play-based learning, and our team of Highly experienced Educators and degree-qualified Teachers provide a stimulating environment for children aged six weeks to six years of age to discover the world. Our daycare centre in Underwood also offers a complimentary bus service which serves families within a 5km radius of the Centre.

Our long day care in Underwood is ideally located for families in surrounding suburbs near Woodridge, Springwood, Rochedale South and Runcorn.

Our exciting, resource-rich environments include:

  • Quality learning programs such as Joy of Reading, Cooking and Sustainability
  • Engaging indoor learning spaces full of quality educational resources
  • Expansive outdoor play spaces with a sandpit, bike track and veggie garden
  • On-site Chef providing fresh snacks and meals daily
  • Nappies, SPF 50+ sunscreen, a hat and bed linen provided
  • Extended hours of care each weekday from 6.30am to 6.30pm

The initial five years of your child’s life are crucial for their social and emotional development, as well as fostering a lifelong love of learning. Our two-year Kindergarten Program brings this educational philosophy to life, led by qualified teachers who prepare your child for the exciting transition to school.

The Queensland Government offers funding to provide families up to 15 hours of free kindergarten a week. The funding off sets the fees for children who turn four years old by 30 June in the year before they attend primary school. This support is in addition to the Child Care Subsidy and can help to lower your out-of-pocket fees. Ask for more details when you tour the centre.

Our Underwood early learning centre features a spacious outdoor area with herb and vegetable gardens, an art studio, a water pump, a creek bed, a worm farm, and natural play structures where children are encouraged to play and learn.

Children get out and about on excursions, so we have a great connection with the surrounding local community. We visit a variety of locations, including local parks and cafes. We are very proud to have a culturally diverse team and celebrate a variety of cultural holidays throughout the year.

To further explore food at the Centre, our Educators host weekly hands-on cooking classes for the children to enhance their understanding of good nutrition. Children can also enjoy their meals in the dedicated piazza while socialising with their friends and educators.

As part of our unique Visible Learning program, our Learning Exchange display provides opportunities to share your child’s progress. You are encouraged to share your own personal goals for us to implement, meaning that you have direct input in your child’s educational journey!

You are also given access to our family communication app Storypark, where we will share any significant updates in your child’s day, as well as any other important Centre updates, ensuring that you’re always connected, even when you’re not here.

My son has been here since 14 months. I trust the team and they are now family to him. What amazed me about the centre was within a few weeks all educators knew him by name and gave him so much love (Not just his room educators). This was very important to me when doing hand over in the mornings and evening for a baby and gave me as the mum of peace of mind. Now that he is a toddler, he loves school and I know he does much more than I can do with him at home. He is thriving and I know it's cause of the effort his teachers put in with at the Guardian.

We have been part of the Guardian Underwood family for 3 years & I wanted to share honest recent feedback about the last 6 months in particular under the guidance of the new Centre Manager, Kylie Haddock.Firstly - the Educators have been there for some time and we are fortunate to have had had educators who welcomedUs in 3 years ago, farewell us and be part of the growth they created for my child. They are warm, loving & have a genuine love for children. They embraced my child like their own, nurtured him & provided a foundation for him to be a confident, mischievous boy, ready for school.Over the last few months there has been alot of changes and iv been able to witness the benefits of those changes, in the rooms, around the centre, operations and a few more educational staff. When walking in, each section of the “ outdoor area” has its own little nook of story time, drawing, garden skills, exploration - you get a feel immediately that each “ area” is set up to facilitate education through play and fun. It’s not just a play area/ sandpits. The rooms have updated resources and the activities are set up for the next day at the end of the class which I know, made sure we were excited ( and on time) for the next day. Storypark is updated by the end of the day and Kylie and Jenny ensure the communication to parents is efficient, thorough and Kylie addresses any concerns immediately and is so open to feedback - all of the staff do. You’re encouraged to be part of the learning journey.Miss Angela - the Chef. She deserves her own cookbook. Her love language is healthy Great food that tastes amazing - she delivers ( and I will miss the days that I know my child ate properly and the healthy Cinnabons!) she does share her recipes too and often some of the meals I google because it’s just not what you expect at a centre. With birthdays; she turns it into a centre celebration & makes the cake for all to share, decorating as parents wish. I do hope Angela is recognised by Guardian for her cooking/ baking and heart of gold.If you have stumbled on my review - I would strongly recommend you call the Centre to make an appointment and view the Centre, speak to Kylie - speaking to her is enough to know that they are well experienced,Well resourced and committed educators. Speak to the educators and spend some time in Stay & Play.I’m excited to see how Guardian progresses - we have made life long friends at the centre & we will be sure to pop back in. To the staff and educators - you should be proud of yourselves for your work and efforts - you are so appreciated.Ps: Enquire about Happy Feet with Ms Anne.

I'd like to thank you for the splendid work you're doing with the kids. Most mornings I'm rushing and don't get to express my gratitude !In particular, the multi cultural education my child is receiving is highly commendable. A four year child's ability to count & sing songs in English & Chinese (which isn't our 2nd, 3rd or 4th language) has completely blown me away.Yesterday when I came to drop my son at Daycare, I got greeted by his entire class saying "Sat Sri Akaal" (Hello in Punjabi) is a testament to the amazing work the educators are doing with our kids. You're not only getting them ready for school - but ready for the real world and we can't thank you enough for this.A massive thanks to the Educators & Julie !

My baby girl has been going for a month now since she was 5months old. Staff are lovely, my daughter gives them smiles so I know they have been great with her. They are really accommodating with milk, routines, cloth nappies etc and have a great app where they provide pictures and updates. They always let me know how her day was on pickup as well. Would definitely recommend

Rhythm of the Day

We know children (and families) like routine. Whilst no two days of learning are ever the same - here's what a day at Guardian might look like.

Whilst no two days of learning are ever the same - here's what a day at Guardian might look like.

Handover time with children, families and our friendly Educators. There's a chance for conversation to share what's important for the day/what's happened the night before at home.

Breakfast time where families are welcome to stay and enjoy breakfast with the children.

As children are arriving and families are coming and going, there's an opportunity for play as well as family grouping, open-plan play and multi-age grouping.

There's an opportunity for children to come together and enjoy morning tea.

Following morning tea, the planned experiences continue. This includes both indoor and outdoor programs.

There's an opportunity for children to come together for lunch. With an open-door policy, families are able to join the centre for meals and excursion if they wish.

For children who want to, or need to, there's an opportunity to sleep, rest or relax. For children who don't need to rest, there are planned experiences, which are more likely to be outdoors.

Children come together for afternoon tea in small groups or with siblings (they can also rest and play together, too). This time also presents an opportunity to reflect on the day.

As families arrive to pick up children, there's an opportunity to speak to Educators and share information about the day.

Some centres offer early tea or light snack at the end of the day, which they can grab as they leave the centre. We’re mindful of how routines vary at home, so if throughout the day, we notice children look tired, food will be provided.

Underwood Centre Manager Image

Michelle

Our Centre team, led by our experienced Centre Manager Michelle, prides themselves on creating a great sense of community for all families.

Each role in the Centre is designed to work together to help create a nurturing environment for every child in each of our learning spaces.

In our Nursery Room, the dedicated team has a special role in creating secure attachments, routines, and strong relationships. Unique to Guardian nurseries is our Baby Ambassador, who is your go-to person for you and your baby’s first 12 months with us. They will know every detail about your baby: how breast or bottle milk is managed, how they like to eat, their sleeping routines, the nappies they wear, and more. With babies as young as six weeks in the Centre, it’s the Baby Ambassador’s job to work with families and Educators to help make our Nursery feel just like home.

Our Educators across the age groups work together to create fun, stimulating, and age-appropriate experiences for every child in their care. They are dedicated, experienced professionals who are allocated to a specific room so they can get to know each child individually and support their learning and development.

As part of our 2-year Flying Start to School program, we have degree-qualified Teachers who use the latest teaching practices to help your child build essential practical and social skills, ensuring they’re ready for their next big adventure—school!

Each room has a Lead Educator or Teacher who is responsible for planning and implementing an effective ongoing cycle of planning, documentation, and evaluation of the room’s learning program.

At the core of the Centre is our Cook—make sure you check out their daily menu when you visit. They help make food part of the learning journey and love seeing how children respond to new and exciting flavours.

The team is supported by a strong Leadership Team, including an Assistant Centre Manager and an Educational Leader.

Every role at the Centre is as important as the next.

How will you share updates about my child’s day?

Great communication is vital in our collaborative partnerships with families at the Centre. We have a variety of different ways we communicate with you about your child’s learning and progress:

  1. Storypark app - Stay connected to your child's day with regular updates, including photos and learning insights

  2. Pick-up and drop-off updates – Our Educators will share highlights from their day, including experiences they enjoyed, mealtimes, and naps to support your evening routine.

  3. In-room learning exchange displays make our weekly learning plans easy to see so you know what your child will be learning.

  4. Centre Newsletters – Great for community connection and wider Centre and team updates.

  5. Development documentation and meetings for your individual child’s progress.

But remember our door is always open.

Kindergarten Program
Flying start to school

Our Flying Start to School kindergarten program is lead by degree qualified Teachers in a long day care setting. Our specialist two-year program is committed to supporting your child as they prepare for big school. We focus on nurturing their confidence, making friends and social emotional growth while also supporting their abilities in reading, writing, counting, and thinking skills. Whether it’s building with blocks, practicing their first letters, or learning to share with friends, every experience is carefully designed to support your child’s development.

Our Centre is a recipient of funding as part of the QLD Government’s Free Kindy Program. Eligible children who turn four years old by 30 June 2025 can receive up to 15hrs of free kindergarten a week to reduce your out-of-pocket fees. Ask for more details when you tour the centre.

Out and about

Through excursions, children are supported to expand their world, to get to know their community, and have a sense of belonging. Their learning thrives when they feel safe, welcome, and that they belong.

STEM

Children discover the wonders of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through age-appropriate activities that are designed to foster curiosity and develop foundational skills like problem-solving and creativity.

Cooking

Cooking experiences teach numeracy by counting ingredients, and weighing and measuring quantities and volume, while managing these tasks supports independence and confidence.

Ella Language

Learning languages through Early Learning Languages Australia (ELLA) supports brain development and social skills and creates opportunities to celebrate cultural diversity.

Joy of Reading

Reading aloud to children each day inspires imagination and supports thinking. Books with rhythm, rhyme and word patterns make stories more playful and memorable.

Sustainability

From growing veggies and foraging in the garden for that day’s meal ingredients to learning about recycling, children learn about being part of a community, connecting to their environment and understanding their impact on the world.
