Welcome to our Centre

Welcome to Guardian Childcare & Education Newstead, a modern, spacious child centre in Brisbane’s inner-north. Our early childhood education programs are focused on play-based learning, and our team of qualified Teachers and Educators provide a stimulating environment for children aged six weeks to six years of age to discover the world in a safe and secure way.

Our long day care in Newstead is ideally located for families looking for childcare near Breakfast Creek, Fortitude Valley, Bowen Hills, Teneriffe and New Farm, or those commuting to Brisbane CBD for work.

Our Newstead childcare centre offers:

  • Quality learning programs such as Joy of Reading, Cooking and Sustainability
  • Engaging indoor learning spaces full of quality educational resources
  • Expansive outdoor play spaces with a water pump, purpose-built hills and tunnels, indoor gardens, city views and natural play structures
  • On-site Chef providing fresh snacks and meals daily
  • Highly experienced Educators and degree-qualified Teachers
  • Nappies, SPF 50+ sunscreen, a hat and bed linen provided
  • Extended hours of care each weekday from 7am to 6pm

Our Newstead long day care centre is bursting with a range of exciting, resource-rich environments – including two spacious and covered outdoor areas where children are encouraged to explore and learn. Our light-filled daycare in Newstead also has a water pump, purpose-built hills and tunnels, indoor gardens, city views and natural play structures.

Children and families also have the added benefit of a two-year dedicated Kindergarten Program led by quality teachers who are there to help prepare your child for the exciting transition to school.

The QLD Government offers funding to provide families at our centre up to 15 hours of free kindergarten a week. The funding off sets the fees for children who turn four years old by 30 June in the year before they attend primary school. This support is in addition to the CCS and can help to lower your out-of-pocket fees.

To qualify for this additional benefit, children must be at least four years old by 30 June in the year prior to starting Primary School and must be enrolled in an approved Kindergarten program for at least two days per week.

At our early childhood education centre in Newstead, children enjoy weekly excursions into the local community, exploring places like Café 63, nearby shops, and taking scenic walks around Fortitude Valley. On-site, our dedicated and qualified cook prepares five nutritionally balanced meals every day using fresh, seasonal ingredients. With a theatre-style kitchen and dining piazza, mealtimes are a social experience where children sit and enjoy chatting with friends and Educators. To support their early childhood education journey, our Educators also host hands-on cooking classes, helping children learn about good nutrition in a fun and interactive way.

We use family communication app StoryPark to stay connected and ensure families are kept up to date about what’s happening in the Centre and what the children have been doing throughout the day. This ongoing partnership promotes continuity of learning of the children and ensures families are kept informed.

Experience your child’s growth like never before with our unique Visible Learning program. At the heart of this approach is the Learning Exchange—an engaging display in each learning space that showcases what your child is working on each day. Here, our dedicated Teachers and Educators share meaningful updates on your child’s progress and development. It’s also a space for you to contribute your own goals and aspirations, ensuring you play an active role in shaping your child’s educational journey.

Discover the difference at Guardian Newstead. Book a tour of our exceptional day care centre today and take the first step in your child’s learning adventure!

Our daughter has flourished since joining Guardian. What initially felt like an anxious time for us as parents quickly transformed into an enriching journey of growth and development for her. The educators at Guardian are incredibly dedicated, consistently demonstrating genuine care and attentiveness towards her well-being. Their investment in her happiness and progress has made Guardian an invaluable part of our family's life.

Guardian Newstead is an outstanding childcare facility that we love and would highly recommend. It is a well-equipped, clean and well looked after centre with great facilities, play and sleep areas. But more importantly, the team of educators and staff who work there are just incredible. The educators are all so kind, warm, friendly and comforting when the children are feeling upset or confused. They run a huge range of fun and engaging activities for the children, all of which have an educational/developmental purpose. There is lots of craft and creative play as well as teaching them important real-world lessons and skills every day. The centre is so well managed, with excellent regular communication to parents and any questions or requests are always efficiently responded to by the awesome centre managers Reagan and Sam. Every morning they greet you with a smile and friendly chat and I always feel reassured that our son is going to have a great day. Even the chef Roberto is such a friendly and kind man who engages the children in his process of cooking and always greets everyone with a smile. Our son loves his food too and there are lots of healthy options. We are so grateful to have found such a wonderful facility for our son and he has learnt and grown so much under the kind and gentle guidance of the whole team at Guardian Newstead. Thank you!

Becoming a new parent is stressful and overwhelming enough, and especially if you move to a new country and continent at the same time, like I did. From the moment I enrolled my son, Guardian Newstead has been supported both me and my child so much. Absolute life changer to know your child will be educated, socialized, supported, and loved!! Everything from the amazing Greek chef and his fantastic meals (that my picky eater loves), to the nurturing and informative educators, and the vast space they have to run around and exert all their energy has surpassed all my previous expectations of what daycare should be. I’m so grateful for them! Anyone who enrols their child, can rest assure and be comforted by the fact that they will be greeted with a warm friendly smile at the entrance, and leave with a full belly and full heart, and stimulated intellectually to boot! Highly recommend.

Really great childcare centre, the staff have been wonderful looking after my children who seem really happy there. Fantastic facilities for the children to play and explore and all is communicated through their online portal so you can keep up to date on what's happening. The staff seem to care about the place and the children and it shows in the facilities. The staff are really engaging with us and happy to share what they have been up to. The centre is really well managed and they seem to have everything under control. Happy to recommend this place to anyone looking for a child care centre for their children.

Rhythm of the Day

We know children (and families) like routine. Whilst no two days of learning are ever the same - here's what a day at Guardian might look like.

Whilst no two days of learning are ever the same - here's what a day at Guardian might look like.

Handover time with children, families and our friendly Educators. There's a chance for conversation to share what's important for the day/what's happened the night before at home.

Breakfast time where families are welcome to stay and enjoy breakfast with the children.

As children are arriving and families are coming and going, there's an opportunity for play as well as family grouping, open-plan play and multi-age grouping.

There's an opportunity for children to come together and enjoy morning tea.

Following morning tea, the planned experiences continue. This includes both indoor and outdoor programs.

There's an opportunity for children to come together for lunch. With an open-door policy, families are able to join the centre for meals and excursion if they wish.

For children who want to, or need to, there's an opportunity to sleep, rest or relax. For children who don't need to rest, there are planned experiences, which are more likely to be outdoors.

Children come together for afternoon tea in small groups or with siblings (they can also rest and play together, too). This time also presents an opportunity to reflect on the day.

As families arrive to pick up children, there's an opportunity to speak to Educators and share information about the day.

Some centres offer early tea or light snack at the end of the day, which they can grab as they leave the centre. We’re mindful of how routines vary at home, so if throughout the day, we notice children look tired, food will be provided.

Newstead Centre Manager Image

Reagan

Our Centre team, led by our experienced Centre Manager Reagan, prides themselves on creating a great sense of community for all families.

Each role in the Centre is designed to work together to help create a nurturing environment for every child in each of our learning spaces.

In our Nursery Room, the dedicated team has a special role in creating secure attachments, routines, and strong relationships. Unique to Guardian nurseries is our Baby Ambassador, who is your go-to person for you and your baby’s first 12 months with us. They will know every detail about your baby: how breast or bottle milk is managed, how they like to eat, their sleeping routines, the nappies they wear, and more. With babies as young as six weeks in the Centre, it’s the Baby Ambassador’s job to work with families and Educators to help make our Nursery feel just like home.

Our Educators across the age groups work together to create fun, stimulating, and age-appropriate experiences for every child in their care. They are dedicated, experienced professionals who are allocated to a specific room so they can get to know each child individually and support their learning and development.

As part of our 2-year Flying Start to School program, we have degree-qualified Teachers who use the latest teaching practices to help your child build essential practical and social skills, ensuring they’re ready for their next big adventure—school!

Each room has a Lead Educator or Teacher who is responsible for planning and implementing an effective ongoing cycle of planning, documentation, and evaluation of the room’s learning program.

At the core of the Centre is our Cook—make sure you check out their daily menu when you visit. They help make food part of the learning journey and love seeing how children respond to new and exciting flavours.

The team is supported by a strong Leadership Team, including an Assistant Centre Manager and an Educational Leader.

Every role at the Centre is as important as the next.

How will you share updates about my child’s day?

Great communication is vital in our collaborative partnerships with families at the Centre. We have a variety of different ways we communicate with you about your child’s learning and progress:

  1. Storypark app - Stay connected to your child's day with regular updates, including photos and learning insights

  2. Pick-up and drop-off updates – Our Educators will share highlights from their day, including experiences they enjoyed, mealtimes, and naps to support your evening routine.

  3. In-room learning exchange displays make our weekly learning plans easy to see so you know what your child will be learning.

  4. Centre Newsletters – Great for community connection and wider Centre and team updates.

  5. Development documentation and meetings for your individual child’s progress.

But remember our door is always open.

Kindergarten Program
Flying start to school

Our Flying Start to School kindergarten program is lead by degree qualified Teachers in a long day care setting. Our specialist two-year program is committed to supporting your child as they prepare for big school. We focus on nurturing their confidence, making friends and social emotional growth while also supporting their abilities in reading, writing, counting, and thinking skills. Whether it’s building with blocks, practicing their first letters, or learning to share with friends, every experience is carefully designed to support your child’s development.

Our Centre is a recipient of funding as part of the QLD Government’s Free Kindy Program. Eligible children who turn four years old by 30 June 2025 can receive up to 15hrs of free kindergarten a week to reduce your out-of-pocket fees. Ask for more details when you tour the centre.

Out and about

Through excursions, children are supported to expand their world, to get to know their community, and have a sense of belonging. Their learning thrives when they feel safe, welcome, and that they belong.

STEM

Children discover the wonders of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through age-appropriate activities that are designed to foster curiosity and develop foundational skills like problem-solving and creativity.

Cooking

Cooking experiences teach numeracy by counting ingredients, and weighing and measuring quantities and volume, while managing these tasks supports independence and confidence.

Ella Language

Learning languages through Early Learning Languages Australia (ELLA) supports brain development and social skills and creates opportunities to celebrate cultural diversity.

Joy of Reading

Reading aloud to children each day inspires imagination and supports thinking. Books with rhythm, rhyme and word patterns make stories more playful and memorable.

Sustainability

From growing veggies and foraging in the garden for that day’s meal ingredients to learning about recycling, children learn about being part of a community, connecting to their environment and understanding their impact on the world.
