Child Safe Organisation

Guardian is proud to be a Child Safe Organisation.

Child safe practices are embedded at all levels in our organisation, governance and culture. Guardian is committed to child safety as our top priority. We believe that all children should be safe, happy, and empowered. We support and respect all children, as well as our team members, families, volunteers and visitors. We will always prioritise the safety, participation, and empowerment of all children.

Children and young people thrive when they grow up in safe, supportive environments connected to their family, community, and culture. We are committed to creating spaces where every child feels safe—and is safe, including those from vulnerable or diverse backgrounds. We work to ensure that their voices are heard about decisions that affect their lives.

At Guardian we:

  • Have zero tolerance for child abuse and neglect
  • We’re dedicated to creating a safe, supportive environment where children feel heard and feel confident.
  • We reinforce a culture of speaking up about bad behaviour. Our Whistleblower Policy provides a confidential, anonymous way for team members to report any poor behaviour or treatment they see, with no repercussions
  • We take all concerns and allegations seriously and will always respond in a fair and consistent way, following our policies and child protection laws.
  • At Guardian we ensure that every team member holds a valid, government approved Working with Children Check.
  • Are committed to ensuring that all team members and volunteers have ongoing supervision, support and mandatory training so that their performance is developed and enhanced to help protect all children from abuse
  • We exceed required centre supervision ratios 90% of the time; for the remaining 10%, we meet the regulations.

We adopt, meet and exceed all Child Safe Standards that have been adopted and legislated in all states and territories of Australia. This includes ten standards in all states and eleven standards in Victoria.
