At Guardian, the safety and wellbeing of children is our highest priority. But being a child-safe organisation isn’t just something we say — it’s part of every decision, every interaction, every day, across our centres. For our teams, it’s about actively thinking, observing, and acting, to make our environments safe and supportive.
Here’s how we challenge ourselves to put child safety at the heart of everything we do:
How do we create spaces where children feel safe in our childcare centres?
Safety starts with awareness. Our teams are trained to:
- Support children to speak up with their words or actions
- Encourage children to say no if something feels uncomfortable
- Be alert and responsive to children’s feelings, words, and behaviours, especially when they’re scared or upset
- Create welcoming, respectful spaces where children feel valued
- Use only Guardian devices and approved apps in each learning space
We guide children towards safer choices
Safety isn’t just about protection – here’s how our teams support children to make safe choices themselves:
- Understand each child’s needs, behaviours, and emotions to support their safety
- Talk with children about safe and unsafe situations
- Support children to learn to manage risks confidently and safely
- Create daily routines that give children time, space, and choices
- Involve children in decision-making so everyone can work together to reduce risk
How do our teams put safety into action in our childcare centres?
Every team member has the awareness and tools to act with confidence and consistency when it comes to child safety
- Use our Thrive leadership framework to give everyone clear steps to follow and confidence in what to do, and when
- Ensure students, volunteers, visitors, and contractors are always supervised
- Set clear, consistent expectations that children understand
- Act quickly and supportively when a child asks for help or shows they’re upset
- Build strong connections with children and families so everyone feels safe
We continually reflect and respond
Keeping children safe is a dynamic process — we regularly reflect and adapt:
- Talk with children and team members to share what’s working and what could be improved
- Adjust quickly and problem-solve together
- Notice changes in children’s behaviour or emotions that may signal something isn’t right
- Review risk assessments regularly
- Use feedback from families to make our spaces safer
At Guardian, child safety isn’t a checklist — it’s embedded in our culture. Every interaction and every choice is an opportunity to make children feel secure, supported, and empowered.
That’s why we think we are the best childcare provider in the community.
