Safety at Guardian Childcare – Families’ Frequently Asked Questions

We’re pleased to share how we focus on making Guardian Childcare centres safe and supportive for every child in our care. With highly trained educators, clear daily procedures, and well-practiced emergency plans, every part of our centres is designed for children to explore and learn with confidence.

To help families feel even more informed, we’ve put together answers to some of the most-asked safety questions we hear during centre tours.

What training do our day care educators have in safety and first aid?

This is a question we hear often, and one we take very seriously. The safety and wellbeing of every child depends on the skills of our dedicated team, which is why we invest in ongoing training for every centre team member.

Every Guardian Childcare centre always has a fully qualified First Aid team member on hand, and all educators hold (or are working towards) nationally recognised childcare qualifications, including thorough training in child health and safety.

In addition to these qualifications, our experienced teams regularly complete further training in key safety areas, including:

  • First Aid and CPR: Lead Educators hold current first aid, CPR, asthma, and anaphylaxis management qualifications. Regular drills and refresher courses keep these skills sharp.
  • Child Protection: Every team member receives thorough, ongoing child protection training, ensuring they can recognise and respond appropriately to any signs of harm, in line with national standards.
  • Safe Sleep: For the babies in our nursery, teams are extensively trained in safe sleep practices, ensuring every rest time is closely supervised.
  • Health and Hygiene: Ongoing training covers infection control, food safety, and maintaining hygienic environments to minimise the spread of illness.

Our ongoing commitment to professional development ensures every team member has the latest knowledge and skills to keep children safe every day.

Is Guardian Childcare safe?

Safety at Guardian Childcare is built into our culture, not just our checklists. Every day, our experienced teams follow thorough procedures to ensure the environment is safe, secure, and ready for learning.

  • Environment audits: Before children arrive, indoor and outdoor spaces are checked for hazards, equipment is inspected, and learning areas are secure.
  • Secure access: Centres feature multiple layers of security. Only authorised families and team members can enter, and strict sign-in/out procedures are followed. Alternative pick-ups require prior written consent and identity verification.
  • Headcounts and supervision: Regular headcounts, especially during transitions, and supervision plans that exceed the required educator-to-child ratios ensure children are always seen and supported.
  • Food safety: Meals and snacks made fresh by our onsite Chefs and Cooks follow strict safety protocols. Allergies and dietary needs are managed carefully, with separate preparation areas and utensils to prevent cross-contamination.

These measures ensure that every day at Guardian begins and ends with safety as the top priority.

How do we handle incidents or emergencies in daycare?

While our goal is always prevention, we are fully prepared to respond calmly and effectively if an incident occurs.

  • Immediate care: First aid-trained team members provide care and comfort to any child involved. Emergency services are contacted if needed.
  • Family communication: Parents or emergency contacts are notified promptly, with clear and factual updates about what happened and the steps taken.
  • Documentation: Every incident is documented and shared with families. This transparency supports both trust and ongoing safety improvements.
  • Review and reflection: if a significant incident occurs, our daycare teams review what happened and how we responded, learning from each situation to prevent future occurrences.

Each child from our nursery through to our preschool / kindergarten is our greatest responsibility, and our approach to incident management reflects that commitment with professional, compassionate, and transparent action.
