Our Commitment to Child Safety and Quality Care

At Guardian Childcare and Education, the safety and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority. We know that recent media coverage, including reports on childcare safety incidents, may raise concerns for families. We want to provide clarity, outline the steps we take to ensure childcare safety, and reaffirm our ongoing commitment to delivering the highest standards of care and early learning.

Child Safety at Guardian Childcare

Every Guardian Childcare centre follows rigorous safety and supervision practices to protect children in our care. Our educators and teachers complete regular child safety training and follow clear protocols for incident reporting, risk management, and wellbeing checks.

We take every incident seriously and view it as an opportunity to strengthen our processes, ensuring that Guardian Childcare continues to meet and exceed national quality standards.

Continuous Improvement in Childcare Safety

To ensure that Guardian Childcare centres provide safe and nurturing environments, we regularly review and update our policies. Recent actions include:

  • Enhanced safety training for educators in child protection, active supervision, incident reporting and health and safety procedures.
  • More frequent childcare safety audits across all Guardian centres to ensure compliance with national regulations.
  • We reinforce a culture of speaking up about bad behaviour. Our Whistleblower Policy provides a confidential, anonymous way for team members to report any poor behaviour or treatment they see, with no repercussions
  • Investment in technology and resources that help educators monitor and support children effectively.

By embedding these practices, Guardian Childcare strengthens its position as a leader in safe, high-quality early education in Canberra and across Australia.

Ensure good practice around Team Recruitment

Families should feel reassured knowing that only the most qualified and trustworthy people are allowed to care for children in our childcare centres. Here are the steps we take:

  • Working with Children Check (WWCC): Every team member must have a valid, government-approved Working with Children Check before working in any of our centres. If an educator’s WWCC is not current, our rostering system automatically blocks them from being scheduled to work for us in any centre —that’s how seriously we take this requirement.
  • Rigorous Reference Checks: Before anyone joins our team, we conduct thorough reference and background checks, making sure that educators not only have the right qualifications and values, but a proven history of prioritising children’s safety and wellbeing.
  • Centralised Compliance Monitoring: We maintain a central electronic database to track all WWCCs and Police Checks, ensuring credentials are always up to date and no detail is overlooked.

Partnering with Families

Guardian believes that families are our most important partners in creating safe and supportive environments for children. We are committed to:

  • Maintaining open communication with parents about centre safety and wellbeing.
  • We take all concerns and allegations seriously and will always respond in a fair and consistent way, following our policies and child protection laws
  • Encouraging family feedback, which plays a vital role in continuous improvement.
  • Providing reassurance to parents that Guardian Childcare centres place safety above all else.
