Guardian Leadership Academy: supporting our leaders to grow

Great leadership makes a big difference in early learning. That’s why we’ve launched the Guardian Leadership Academy – a new initiative designed to support current and aspiring Centre Managers as they grow their careers.

Leading an early learning centre is highly rewarding and sometimes unpredictable. Centre leaders are supporting children and families, guiding their teams, managing day-to-day operations and creating an environment where everyone can thrive.

With so much happening, it can be easy for leaders to put their own development to one side. The Guardian Leadership Academy is designed to change that.

Learning, applying and coaching

The Academy brings together three important parts of leadership development: learning, applying and coaching.

Leaders have access to practical learning and resources that build skills across areas such as people leadership, communication, business and financial management, quality and safety, family engagement and conflict resolution.

They’ll then have opportunities to put that learning into practice through real-world experiences, building confidence by trying new approaches and taking on new challenges.

And importantly, they’ll have access to professional coaching – providing a confidential space to reflect, explore ideas, work through challenges and think about what comes next.

“Every leader deserves someone caring, independent and resourceful in their corner,” says Sarah Orr, Head of our Guardian Leadership Academy.

“We want our leaders to know there is somewhere they can go to find practical help, discover new possibilities and focus on their own growth.”

Supporting leaders at every stage

Our Leadership Academy isn’t a single course or training program. It’s an ongoing approach to development that will support leaders at different stages of their journey.

For aspiring Centre Managers, that means clearer pathways to build the skills and experience they need to take their next step.

For new Centre Managers, it means practical support as they settle into their roles and build their confidence.

And for our more experienced leaders, it means opportunities to continue learning, take on new challenges and shape fulfilling careers.

Development will also connect closely with the things that make Guardian unique, including our exclusive programs such as Thrive and To BE Me, enabling leaders to build the knowledge and confidence to bring these experiences to life each day.

Investing in great leadership

At the heart of the Academy is a simple idea: when we invest in our leaders, we invest in better experiences for children, families and teams.

“Great early learning experiences depend on great leadership,” says Sarah.

“By investing in our current and future leaders, we are hopefully sending a message that we care more about creating better experiences for children and families, and our people.”

The Guardian Leadership Academy is another way we’re supporting our people to build their confidence, recognise their strengths, overcome challenges and become the leaders they aspire to be.

Because great leaders don’t stop growing – and at Guardian, we want to make sure they have the support and ongoing opportunities to keep moving forward.
