Create your own Spectacular Easter hat

How to make a hat out of paper just in time for Easter

It’s Easter hat parade time. Are you ready to make you own hat?  Make sure you take lots of pictures and share them with your family & friends!

You will need

  • 1 sheet of light card or heavy paper
  • Scissors
  • Hole punch (optional)
  • glue or tape
  • stapler
  • your camera

Decorative Ideas

  • paint, crayons, oil pastels, pencils or textas.
  • sequins, feathers, ribbon, lace small fabric scraps
  • decorative paper, or small coloured shapes cut or torn from magazines
  • Flower petals and small leaves from your garden

How to Do It

Step 1

Take the sheets of cardboard or heavy paper and cut a rectangle 50 x 15cm.

Step 2

Wrap this around your head to fit like a crown, and mark of the overlapping section. Place your card/paper down on a flat surface.

Step 3

Start decorating, being careful not to add any of your beautiful detail to the overlapping section.

Try drawing, painting or collage, or even a mixed media combination. Perhaps you might try fringing by making small cuts all along the top edge. Or use a hole punch to make some tiny cut out details. Perhaps you might like to use glue or tape to add some bunny ears cut from paper.

Step 4

Place your hat back around your head to check for fit and use a little tape to hold the edges in place. Watch out for your hair! Now pull it off your head and use more tape or. staples with the help of an adult to make the join secure.

Step 5

Now your hat is ready to be worn. Take a photo and share it with your friends and family. You might have an Easter parade and take a video too!
