From April through to July this year, The Exchange team will visit every centre in Victoria, holding workshops that explore and discuss construction and carpentry in early childhood education. In this workshop, the Exchange team will focus on the construction spaces inside the centre, with an emphasis on the addition of open-ended materials into those spaces.
Monthly Inductions are run in each state welcome new educators and staff to Guardian. The induction is a chance for educators and staff to learn more about Guardian, our curriculum and the wealth of opportunities available across our network (such as career progression and professional learning).
We are hosting a Child Protection course at Bondi Junction Head Office on Saturday 16th March 2019; 9.30am – 4pm. Registrations are open NOW and places are limited to 25 participants only. The Advanced Ceramics Workshop is designed for educators who have already learnt the basics of clay-work in our first round ceramic workshop. This 3 hour workshop will focus on developing and exploring the concepts of collaborative and sculptural clay-work with children, and go beyond simple joining and shaping techniques. Educators who have already attended an exchange ceramic workshop and who use clay regularly with children in their centres are encouraged to apply to extend their understanding and possibilities of the medium.

The Monthly Victorian Educational Leader Meetings are an opportunity for Educational Leaders to come together with their peers to share knowledge and information. It’s a time for collaboration, reflection, inspiration, networking and strategic business management and development.
In this ceramics workshop run by Becky and Glen, educators will learn how to set up, facilitate, and tidy up a clay experience, as well as how to manipulate, join and sculpt with clay. Educators will have the opportunity to have their pieces fired in the kiln if they wish.
All workshops will run on a Monday from 4pm-5.30pm at Richmond

Sustainability meetings run quarterly in each state. These meetings are attended by the centres’ Sustainability Champion – educators whose role is to facilitate the sustainability agenda in their centres. It is then everyone’s responsibility to support this drive.
The Monthly Victorian Centre Manager Meetings are an opportunity for Centre Managers to come together with their peers to share knowledge and information. It’s a time for collaboration, reflection, inspiration, networking and strategic business management and development.

Not only is this a great initiative and benefit for our employees to receive the necessary training at no cost to keep their qualifications up to date, it also assists our Centres to ensure they maintain any compliance requirements. . In this workshop, the Exchange team will focus on the construction spaces inside the centre, with an emphasis on the addition of open-ended materials into those spaces.
This workshop also aims to give educators the skills they need to be able to help create and facilitate a carpentry space within the centre, where older children are able to take their construction ideas further. This part of the workshop will give educators the chance to learn how to use basic wood-working tools, such as a hand-crank drill, screwdriver and hammers.
These workshops discuss how to facilitate construction with children of all ages, and how to recognise and develop successful learning outcomes from those experiences.

The Masterclass with Kerrie O’Neill is a free professional learning event for Guardian educators held over 5 sessions and is aligned with the Guardian curriculum. This Masterclass is aimed at educators who are Diploma or Bachelor qualified, hold leadership and/or mentoring roles in their centres and want to embed better practices. The induction also goes through some of our core policies and procedures (as well as various other professional standards documents) in a way that allows educators and staff to understand their roles and responsibilities in line with Guardian’s practice expectations, and so that our teams leave feeling confident to make the best decisions possible for children, families and educators. A fun and informative 2 days of networking, learning and collaborating, educators and staff who attend the State Inductions will walk away feeling knowledgeable, confident and supported to be the best they can be.
The Diploma of Education and Care at Guardian is a nationally accredited Diploma course which has been written by Kerrie O’Neill M.Ed (Early Childhood). The course content draws heavily from the inspirational philosophies of the Infant & Toddler Centres and Preschools of Reggio Emilia, and connects those inspiring practices to the National Quality Framework.
Kerrie is a highly experienced and skilled educator with over 30 years of experience in the sector. She has been researching how to contextualise the principles of the Reggio Emilia educational project in the Australian context since her first visit in 1996. This vast experience has allowed Kerrie to create a unique Diploma, tailored to support Guardian educators and the Guardian Curriculum.
The course is administered by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), Southern Solutions in New South Wales and ACT, Skilled Up in Victoria, MADEC in South Australia and Queensland TAFE in Queensland. At the completion of the course all students will receive a nationally recognised Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.
Currently Guardian educators are the only educators in the country who have access to this unique Diploma. Guardian will pay for this wonderful opportunity; you will only have to pay for your text books.

These meetings encompass the journey of sustainability at Guardian, and are facilitated by Jan Rajnoch (Guardian Sustainability Manager) and your state Curriculum Mentor.
In 2017, we have been focussing on reducing the consumption of electricity and waste.
The Sustainability Champions spend a full day together. The morning session evolves around global, national and state perspectives and the focus is gradually being narrowed down to individual centres. The afternoon session involves group work, brainstorming and concrete goal setting for each centre. These meetings are indispensable for ensuring that the world of tomorrow is shaped through the children of today sustainably.

The courses are provided free of charge for educators who are employed full time or part time and whose certificates are due for renewal. As numbers are limited at each event, we recommend that if your FirstAid004 is due to expire within 6 months of an upcoming training date that suits you, you register for that event to ensure you don’t miss out.
