The National Lead – Recover at Work is a critical role, responsible for leading a team of two specialists to support injured workers, their managers, and other key stakeholders. This role ensures a supported and timely return-to-work program, maximizes rehabilitation outcomes for workers, and minimizes the impact on insurance premiums while maintaining a positive safety culture. The National Lead ensures compliance with relevant legislation across different states and supports continuous improvement in Work Cover performance, contributing to the organization’s strategic goals, vision, and purpose.
No two days are the same, and success in this role requires comfort with agile working and self-initiative. Success is seen through strong case management resulting in a reduction in claim duration and cost.
Key Responsibilities:
Workers’ Compensation Management:
- Manage and oversee all aspects of workers’ compensation, ensuring injured workers are properly supported while managing claims costs and premiums.
- Create tools, processes, and strategic direction for all long-term claims to achieve successful outcomes for both work-related and non-work-related injuries.
- Effectively manage both statutory and common law claims to maximize outcomes for both the injured team member and the organization.
Reporting and Communication:
- Prepare reports and correspondence related to return-to-work (RTW) management status and performance.
- Support stakeholders in using this information proactively to create safer work practices and workplaces.
- Provide insights and tactical advice on RTW/injury trends and patterns, supporting strategic priorities for coaching and mentoring managers.
Injury Management Promotion:
- Actively promote injury management and return-to-work processes, highlighting the health benefits of good RTW outcomes.
- Train and educate managers, supervisors, and workers about injury management and return-to-work processes.
Program Evaluation:
- Assist in regular monitoring and evaluation of the effectiveness of injury management programs against outcomes.
- Support Managers and the People & Culture team by upskilling their capability and understanding of how to mitigate claims.
Administrative Duties:
- Submit timely PIAWE calculations to payroll each week.
- Prepare quarterly reports on risk profile, injury performance, and cost of claims for review with insurers.
- Liaise with brokers and insurers on new Guardian acquisitions to ensure they are included in the relevant policy.
- Develop and update relevant Guardian policies and procedures to ensure legislative requirements are met.
- Use and administer the SOLV Injury System.
- Liaise with and provide monthly reports on the utilization and effectiveness of the Injury Assist Nurse Triage Service.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND BEHAVIOURS
- Degree in allied health or 5+ years RTW experience
- Cross jurisdictional RTWC certification
- Strong understanding of state-based Workers Compensation schemes
- Experience in managing RTW outcomes remotely
- Strong ability and experience with PIAWE calculations
- Excellent understanding of Microsoft office
- Good technical understanding of and exposure to online reporting systems
- Experience and interest in managing complex claims.
- Negotiation skillls and ability to clearly communicate
- Ability to manage competing priorities
DESIRED SKILLS
- Exposure to childcare or related industry
- Good understanding of human factors; ergonomics and wellbeing

- Working with the TEAMS System
- Driver’s license and Ability to travel
