Chop Suey
This Chop Suey recipe is a must-try. It’s a flavourful dish that’s perfect for families, filled with veggies and with a super tasty sauce. Crafted with love and tested by thousands of children at our Centres, this recipe is sure to become a favourite in your household too.

Ingredients
chicken breast, thinly sliced
1/2 tsp baking soda / bi-carb soda
SAUCE
1 tbsp cornflour/cornstarch
tamarind fresh / sauce/paste
Salt
dash of white pepper (or black)
3/4 cup (185 ml) water
STIR FRY
virgin olive oil (or other cooking oil)
garlic cloves, finely chopped
1 x onion, sliced (white, brown, yellow)
1 x carrot
sliced mushrooms
bean sprouts
bell peppers
baby corn
potatoes
cabbage
broccoli
fresh green beans
Instructions
- Place chicken in a bowl, sprinkle over baking soda. Use your fingers to mix then set aside for 20 minutes, no longer than 30 minutes (can get too tender). Rinse well, pat excess water with paper towels, set aside
- SAUCE: Place cornflour,Tamarind paste, Salt and water mix until lump-free.
- STIR FRY:
• Heat oil in a wok or skillet over high heat. Add garlic, stir quickly, then add onion, Cook for 1 minute, moving constantly, until onion starts to soften.
• Add chicken, cook for 1 minute until the surface changes from pink to white.
• Add all the vegetables Stir fry for 1 minute.
• Add cabbage, bean sprouts and sauce and stir fry for 1 to 2 minutes until the sauce thickens to a thick syrup consistency. Vegetables should still be tender/crisp, not soggy and soft.
