Apple Crumble Cake

This Apple Crumble Cake recipe is a family favourite. Packed with nutritious ingredients and bursting with flavour, this dish is perfect for families and picky eaters alike. It’s been tried and tested with thousands of children at our Centres, ensuring it’s kid-approved.

This recipe was provided by our wonderful Cook Mee Lan at Guardian Coopers Plains.


  • 4 to 5 medium or small apples – about 4 cups worth of cut up apple
  • 1 ½ cups plain flour
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/3 cup melted butter or margarine

Crumble Topping Ingredients

  • ¾ cup of raw sugar light brown sugar
  • ¼ cup plain flour
  • 2 Tbs butter or margarine
  • 1 tsp cinnamon (optional)


  1. Preheat the oven to 180° C.
  2. Grease a standard square cake pan (20cm x 20cm) with butter.
  3. Sift the flour and baking powder together and mix in the sugar.
  4. Add the milk, beaten egg and melted butter. Mix until there are no huge lumps. Pour into the pan.
  5. Make the crumble mixture: melt the butter in a pan, add the flour, sugar and cinnamon, and mix well until it become crumbley.
  6. Peel, core and cut up the apples, and put on top of the cake batter. Sprinkle the top with the crumble mixture.
  7. Bake for about 40 minutes. Cut into squares. Serve warm or at room temperature.
