The vibrant colour and diversity of Indian culture is set to take over Underwood this Thursday October 19
Children from the Jacaranda Early Learning Centre will celebrate Diwali Day which is part of a Hindu festival.
Centre Manager Melissa Connell said her facility offered a rich learning environment to children and encouraged the community to share in its multiculturalism. “At Jacaranda Early Learning Centre Underwood we celebrate Diwali, one of the biggest festivals in India,” Ms Connell said.
Diwali means row of lights and Ms Connell said it was determined by the position of the moon.
“Diwali marks the triumph of light over darkness and hope over despair.”
“We expect that children have an identity, purpose and role in the curriculum.”
“Children know and understand they have a critical role in deciding what happens every day,” she said.
As part of Diwali celebrations children dress in the traditional outfits and paint Diyas at the centre.
“We also create two Rangoli designs one at the entrance and one in our beautifully designed outdoor environment to welcome the goddess Lakshmi,” Ms Connell said.
