Kate, Centre Manager for Tree House Elsternwick

Tell us about your time working in early childcare and education so far and what inspires you each day?

I started working in early childhood education 24 years ago. I’ve had many different roles in the sector over the years. I came to Melbourne 11 years ago and secured the role as Centre Manager of High Street ELC, and from there I moved to Tree House Elsternwick and have been here for the past five years.

Children’s learning and development has always been fascinating to me, and I believe the environment they learn in is very important in setting them up for future learning. I have learnt that the children are also the teachers. The team of Educators that we have at Tree House Elsternwick inspire me to facilitate an environment where they can fulfill their passions as early childhood Educators.

What have you learnt about children during your early childcare and education career and how would you sum up your approach/passion to helping them on their learning, emotional, social and life journey?

Children inspire me to build a community where they are valued and respected for their individuality. A place to feel safe and secure while creating a sense of adventure and exploration, where exciting learning environments can evolve from the children’s interests.

My end goal is to ensure all children passing through Tree House are respected for who they are and the magical knowledge they bring to our world.

What are you most excited about working with children on/teaching children about and why?

I’m most excited about empowering children to be the best they can be, by instilling confidence, respect, enjoyment and adventure into them.
