Kate, Centre Manager of Bird House West Pennant Hills

Tell us about your time working in early childcare and education so far and what inspires you each day?

I started working in the early childhood sector in 2004. I started working in the field because I have always had a love for children and seeing them learn and grow. I began as a trainee and have worked in a range of community and cooperate centres with all age groups. I am constantly surprised by the amazing discoveries that children are making and they ways they show their thinking. Some of the things they say make me laugh and that’s something that keeps me inspired and reminds me why I love my job at Bird House West Pennant Hills.

What have you learnt about children during your early childcare and education career and how would you sum up your approach/passion to helping them on their learning, emotional, social and life journey?

I have learnt that children are so capable and strong individuals. I believe that children should be able to make decisions for themselves throughout the day and learn best through play, especially when they have blocks of uninterrupted time. This allows them to discover as well as build on their social and emotional skills, which helps them prepare for school and life beyond.

What are you most excited about working with children on/teaching children about and why?

I am most excited about seeing the children making discoveries and building on their knowledge both individually and sharing with the other children and Educators. I love when the children are excited to share their learning and their creations with the families.
