In Conversation with Julie Centre Manager of Jacaranda Underwood
Julie is the Centre Manager for Jacaranda ELC – Underwood, an open-plan centre which features herb and vegetable gardens, an art atelier, a water pump, a creek bed, and a worm farm. Julie took a few minutes out of her busy day to share insights on her career background, her education approach and a few fun facts.
Tell us about your time working in early childcare and education so far and what inspires you each day?
I have been working in the early childhood industry for 20 years, and have worked centres across New Zealand, London and now Australia at Jacaranda Underwood.
What have you learnt about children during your early childcare and education career and how would you sum up your approach/passion to helping them on their learning, emotional, social and life journey?
I believe that children are competent and confident explorers who are curious, inquisitive and excited about the world around them. As a Centre Manager, I support children in their early years journey by providing complex learning spaces that spark interest and encourage children to hypothesise, as well as creating play-based environments that provoke questions and curiosity.
What are you most excited about working with children on/teaching children about and why?
I’m excited about watching children explore, learn and celebrate their milestones and achieving their goals.
