Gemma, Centre Manager of Paradise

Tell us about your time working in early childcare and education so far and what inspires you each day?

I’ve been in the childcare industry for over 20 years, with 11 of those years at Paradise. I began my career in OSHC while studying my diploma, then moved into a toddler Team Leader position. I was promoted to my first Centre Manager position at 21. I have learnt to always remember where I started and to be thankful for the journey. I am inspired by the resilience of children and how adaptable they are.

What have you learnt about children during your early childcare and education career and how would you sum up your approach/passion to helping them on their learning, emotional, social and life journey?

I believe that children are lifelong learners, so as Educators we need to encourage children to build skills that enable them to reach their full potential. This includes techniques such as changing our style of teaching to suit each child’s learning style and ensuring environments are set up to ignite curiosity and challenge thinking.

What are you most excited about working with children on/teaching children about and why?

I’m excited to watch the growth and development of each child in my care. It also brings me joy to see the connections children make through interactions, along with their every day achievements and when they collaborate with fellow peers.
