Ready, Set, Go! Export Park’s Theatrical Excursion

Export Park childcare centre

Export Park Childcare Centre is an early learning centre in Adelaide that is not only doing great things within the centre, but also getting out and about into the community. Centre Manager Toni Shatwell shares a recent experience of an incursion which turned into an exciting excursion for the children.

The Australian Company of Performing Arts came to the service and involved the children in a Ready Set Go program. This program included dance, drama, music and movement sessions and was loved by the children and educators. They thoroughly enjoyed this free class and afterwards were invited to attend the production of Alice in Funderland.

All aboard!

As the theatre was not in walking distance, we organised a bus to take us there. The children, dressed in their high-vis yellow vests, loved the experience of being perched up high above the roads. We passed the time by singing songs on the journey, and before we knew it, we were at the theatre!

Show time

The children took their seats in the theatre and were really engaged with the show and its characters. After the show the children took part in another free workshop of dance and even got a chance to meet the characters.

This experience resulted in a number of learning outcomes for children. From exploring sense of self and place to gross motor skills to exploring rhythms, patterns and sounds, the experience was rich with learning opportunities. Our children were so well behaved and we were so proud of their growing confidence throughout this dance and drama project. We’re looking forward to including more experiences like this one in the centre’s program in the near future.
