16th May 2017
Guardian West Pennant Hills is a childcare centre in Sydney that provides high quality early learning in a safe and secure setting. The on-site kitchen prepared nutritionally balanced meals daily and the regular incursions and excursions are highly anticipated events in the Guardian West Pennant Hills calendar.
The team of dedicated educators provide care and support for all children in the service and are truly passionate about early learning. One such educator is Stephanie Jaksetic who is also the sustainability champion at Guardian West Pennant Hills. We take a moment to find out a bit more about her, her role at the centre and why sustainability matters.
What do you do at Guardian West Pennant Hills? And how long have you been there for?
I am a trainee at Guardian West Pennant Hills and I have been here for about a year.
What do you love most about your job?
What I love the most about my job is that I get to support the children and help them gain skills to benefit their futures.
Why is sustainability important at your centre?
Sustainability is important in my centre because it teaches the children how their food is made and what nature can give us.
What sustainability projects are you currently undertaking?
At the moment we are currently starting to grow some new winter vegetables for our winter menu. And we are looking forward to welcoming a rabbit soon that will help us with our food waste.
Have you had any feedback from the parents?
We have had a lot of feedback from the parents mentioning how happy they are with how involved their children are with planning and maintaining the garden and how it has started conversations at home about all the types of veg and fruit we are currently growing.
What are the children learning in regards to sustainability and the environment?
At the moment the children are learning about recycling and what happens if we do and don’t recycle, we are also learning about bugs that we have in our garden and what we can do to help them survive.
And some questions to get to know you better…
If you could have any super power what would it be and why?
If I could have any superpower I would love to have the ability to change the weather and make plants grow.
What’s one thing that most people wouldn’t know about you?
Most people would know about me is that I love gardening and creating nothing into something.
What’s your signature dish?
My signature dish is nice Napolitano pasta with lots of veggies, chicken and feta.
Do you have a pet?
Yes, I have dog called Molly and she’s a shar pei staffy.
